Psalm 27 read by Cynthia M. Clarke from the New King James version of the Bible. With the Lord's blessing, this is the 2nd in our series of Psalms readings! Heartfelt thanks to my sister in Christ, Christa Rosier, for the use of her Psalms Paintings. About the painting: The man in the prayer shawl (tallit) has fled into Gods Temple. He is now in the innermost part of Gods Tabernacle, and is resting. The light of the menorah (candlestick) falls upon him and he is strengthened by the word of God; the Torah scroll. On the scroll is written in Hebrew the first part of Psalm 27. The menorah appears out of the scroll and forms the word Yesha (in Hebrew) which means: 'my salvation'. The Great Ohio River Flood of 1937 took place in late January and February with damage stretching from Pennsylvania to Illinois, 1 million were left homeless with 385 dead and property losses reaching $500 million, January 1937 remains as the wettest month ever recorded in Ohio, further worsened by the fact that it occurred during the Great Depression and just a few years after The Dust Bowl. Compounding the devastation was the numerous gas and electrical fires that ravaged the city, with no way of reaching the fires many of the downtown structures were totally destroyed. But through strong faith and resilience Ironton made a miraculous recovery and went on to construct a flood wall system surrounding the city in 1938 which is still in used to this day.
